Students are told they are going to vote for “classroom helper,” and that the two candidates are Cookie Monster and The Count from Sesame Street.  Students brainstorm qualities that they would want to see in a “classroom helper.”  For the next week, the teacher writes an issue on the board and how each of the candidates responds to it.  At the end of the week, students vote.

Objectives:

  • Students will learn about matching qualifications to the job.
  • Students will learn about voting.
  • Students will become informed about candidate positions on issues, and use that information to form a vote.
