Objective: Explore the stories that objects in our families tell

Lesson - Civics For All: What is Democracy?

Objective: Students consider the role of elected officials and how they are chosen in a democracy

Objective: Read about a young person who solved a problem in their community.

Lesson - Civics for All: Our Branches of Government

Objective: Explore the purpose of our government and why it is important. (Branches of government)

 

2nd Grade [3]

Lesson - Solving Community Problems - 

Objective: Identify ways to solve community problems.

Lesson - Rules and Laws 

Objective: Identify how rules and laws are different and why they are important for communities and the citizens living in them

Lesson - Civics for All: Roles of the President

Objective: Analyze photographs to understand the roles and responsibilities of the President of the United States

Lesson - Civics for All: First Ladies Make a Difference

Objective: Learn about how First Ladies use their role to advocate for important issues

 

3rd Grade [4]

Lesson - Passport to Social Studies: What Are Human Rights?

Objective: Interpret texts to understand the concept of human rights 

Lesson - Human Rights

Objective: Students examine parts of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and consider the relationship between human and civil rights.

Lesson - Power and Use of Power to Influence (2-day lesson)

Objective: Students investigate various roles of people in power to understand how they affect change.

Lesson - Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Objective: Analyze two image to consider the creation of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights

 

4th Grade [5]

Lesson - Hidden Voices: Eliza Jennings Graham

Objective: Consider how a member of a community can change an unfair rule or law through the story of Eliza Jennings Graham.

Lesson - American Ideals

Objective: Analyze primary sources to understand how Americans symbolize their ideals. (Statue of Liberty)

Lesson - The Constitution

Objective: Analyze why the U.S. Constitution is important and interpret the Preamble and Articles

5th Grade [6]

Lesson - Civics for All: Kid Lawyer

Objective: Write an advice column after analyzing a Supreme Court case about free speech. (Tinker v. Des Moines)

Lesson – Civics for All: Political Participation

Objective: Analyze images of people participating in the political process to learn more about how members of a community participate.
