The shifting history of Confederate monuments

Charlottesville, Virginia – a plan to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from the city’s downtown leads to violence. In this video, Edward Ayers of the University of Richmond joins William Brangham to offer some historical context regarding the story behind such monuments and the continuing struggle with the legacy of the Civil War.
