What does Washington, D.C. look like?

This lesson is designed for elementary level students; however, it can be used or adapted for anyone as an introduction to:

  • using cardinal directions, map scales, legends, and titles to locate places on contemporary maps of Washington, D.C., and the local community.
  • identifying and locating major physical features and natural characteristics (e.g. bodies of water, landforms, natural resources, and weather) in Washington, D.C.
