This lesson is designed for elementary level students; however, it can be used or adapted for anyone as an introduction to:

using cardinal directions, map scales, legends, and titles to locate places on contemporary maps of Washington, D.C., and the local community.
identifying and locating major physical features and natural characteristics (e.g. bodies of water, landforms, natural resources, and weather) in Washington, D.C.
