Featured Cases 2018-2019 - 

Rucho v. Common Cause - Can courts hear extreme partisan gerrymander challenges to state congressional maps? If so, was North Carolina’s 2016 congressional map an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander?

American Legion v. American Humanist Association - This case asks the Supreme Court to determine if a 40-foot high Latin Cross created to honor WW I Veterans violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment?

Fourth Estate Public Benefit Corp. v. Wall-Street.com, LLC - This case asks the Supreme Court to determine if an official copyright claim has been made under the Copyright Act when the copyright owner delivers the required application, deposit, and fee to the Copyright Office, or is it made only after the Copyright Office processes that application?

Gamble v. United States - In this case the Supreme Court is asked to reverse precedent and end the separate sovereigns exception to the Double Jeopardy Clause of the Fifth Amendment.

Washington State Department of Licensing v. Cougar Den, Inc - This case examines whether the Yakama Treaty of 1855 allows Yakama tribal members and Yakama tribal businesses to be exempt from state-imposed taxes on the importation of motor vehicle fuel. This case was argued on October 30, 2018.

Madison v. Alabama - This case asks the Court to consider if the Eighth Amendment prohibits a state from executing individuals whose medical conditions leave them incompetent? This case was argued on October 2, 2018.
