Searching for Sovereignty Activity: Select one historical conflict among the three sovereign governments (tribal, state, federal) and research the conflict, considering all perspectives. Use a separate piece of paper to answer the accompanying questions.
Students will:
- Define sovereignty as it relates to American Indian an Alaska Native tribes
- Explain the purpose of a tribal government
- Demonstrate understanding of the structures, functions and powers of tribal governments
- Explain how the federal government is a component of sovereignty for American Indian and Alaska Native tribes
- Identify roles and relationships among federal, tribal, and state governments
